2006 SPRING DAYLILY INTRODUCTIONS
by Darlyn Wilkinson

*GREYWOODS MATERIAL GIRL 75.00
(Wilkinson 06)  Dor.  32”  M. 6”
Like the rock star herself, this flower is vibrant and showy.  The blooms open to a flat cream and the huge rose red eye looks heavily painted on with textured ribbing. A big green throat, a rose red rim and 3 branches make this a knockout from afar. Nicely fertile & producing big eyed kids.  [Sdlg (ISLE OF ZANZIBAR X  GREYWOODS DRESSAGE QUEEN) X BORDER MUSIC]

*GREYWOODS SANTA FE BOOGIE  58.00
(Wilkinson 06)  Dor.  34”  M.  6”
Part of the focus here at GWF is to offer plants that perform well as landscapers, and GW SFB does just that. It’s a clear, round orange peach with a hot JANICE BROWN type of red eye, outlined deeper red and a ruffled red border. A deep grass green throat and the hint of a violet midrib add to the charm. Fertile and hardy. 3 Br/ 24+ buds.  [BORDER MUSIC X Sdlg (TET JANICE BROWN X GREYWOODS LADY BE GOOD)]

GREYWOODS SUGARLAND        85.00
(Wilkinson 06)  Dor/Sev.  38”  ML  7.5-8”  Dip.
Sugar coated and everything nice,  this color is a new direction for spidery hems. Looking like a mouse-eared star UF, it can be identified from  across the garden.  This thin petalled lilac pink has a huge showy cream pink halo and 3 branches, 23+ buds. It won the 2005 STANLEY E. SAXTON Reg. 4 HYBRIDIZERS AWARD. Moderately fertile, good pollen and a bright green throat.  (JAUNTY JULIE X GREYWOODS TOOTHACHE PURPLE)

2006 FALL DAYLILY INTRODUCTIONS

*GREYWOODS BILL CHAMBERS             sold out
(Wilkinson 06)  Dor/ Sev. 32”  LM Ext.
It’s an honor and a privilege to name this lovely daylily after a good friend and a great Reg. 4 Hybridizer. As Bill said, this is not just another pretty pink, but a great plant in the garden. 6” round with heavy substance, this pink subtle bitone has lighter sepals and an excellent yellow gold edge that produces angel wings on hot days. A small yellow halo bleeds into a deep grass green throat. An added bonus is the ruffled buds that start opening the previous day. Very fertile and bloomed into Sept. here.  Limited due to pre-sales.  [GREYWOODS DIXIE BELLE X (ANGELS BRAID X DARLA ANITA)]

GREYWOODS STARGAZEY       sold out
(Wilkinson 06)   Sev. 39” M.  9”  Dip
The Stargazey is a pub in a novel from one of my favorite mystery writers, Martha Grimes. This is what I’d probably call a big fat spidery UF.  (Sorry Bob!)  At 9”+, it starts the day as a deep violet purple star, and progresses to a red purple by afternoon. The flower is nicely formed with a big yellow into a green star center. A few well spaced flowers open at intervals.  Good 4 low branches, a strong scape and gloriously long 24+ buds. Moderately fertile.   [Sdlg Sib to GW  GREAT DANA (MIGHTY HIGHTY TIGHTY X JANS TWISTER) X PLANET MAX]

ADADFARM’S 2006 Introductions

GABRIEL’S WEATHERVANE (Turner 2006)

4”, 42”, dormant, M, diploid.  Pointing the way to a new direction in daylilies, GABRIEL’S WEATHERVANE holds its widely-separated, creamy, trumpet-shaped blossoms on tall, four-way branched scapes that carry up to 20 buds.  The elongated milky-smooth trumpets portray an airy elegance that is restful and soothing – lovely counterpoints to the stronger colors of the garden.  Although perceived by the camera as having a light-yellow infusion, GABRIEL’S WEATHERVANE is enjoyed as a light-cream self by the eye, finding a small green throat at the end of the long, narrow, four-to-five inch trumpets.  Awarded “Best Seedling” at the New England Daylily Society’s 2005 Flower Show with five well-spaced blooms open, GABRIEL’S WEATHERVANE will be valued for both its show presence and its considerable usefulness to hybridizers looking to take this unusual form in ever-expanding directions.  Complemented by proportionate medium-green foliage, it is fertile both ways.  Hybridizer’s will be well-advised to protect seed pods from the keen eyes and beaks of foraging finches.  Cold-hardy, D555 was the show-designated alias for D97-247 [(Toy Trumpets x Unknown) X Unknown].  Very limited; $50 single fan; plus applicable ordering S&H.

TWO MELANIES (Turner 2006)

4”, 41”, dormant, MLa, diploid, double.  A clear medium-yellow self with a green throat, TWO MELANIES is named after two of my favorite hemerocallis hybridizing friends.  Organically grown with no added water and fertilizer, TWO MELANIES doesn’t require the viewer to bend over to appreciate the exquisite clean lines of its bloom and plump buds held well above the medium-green foliage.  Top branched with up to 14 buds, it requires no staking when grown in this manner in that special garden spot that begs for neglect and full sun. Singling for the first bloom or two, TWO MELANIES doubles about 85 % of the time and is fertile both ways.  Cold-hardy, D93-43 is a cross of two unknowns due to a lost label.  Limited; $45 single fan; plus applicable ordering S&H.

WAKE UP KISS (Turner 2006)

3”, 33”, dormant, La, diploid.  Roused from her long slumber, Sleeping Beauty’s attention would be immediately drawn to WAKE UP KISS if romantically carried by her charming young prince. Its beguiling pucker-up eye of vivid strong pink and warm flashes of yellow yield to a vibrant green throat that yearns for more sweep-off-your-feet passion.  Light pink petals, slightly darker-pink sepals and medium-green foliage are enhanced by WAKE UP KISS’ casual, throw-caution-to-the-winds ruffling. For the young, and young-at-heart; a reminder of love’s allure; WAKE UP KISS is cold-shower-hardy for those too overcome to move on to the next hem.  Fertile both ways with look-at-me top-branching carrying up to 11 buds, D98-440 is a cross that includes two favorite heart-tuggers [Siloam Bo Peep X (Gunmetal x Unknown)].  Limited; $35 single fan; plus applicable ordering S&H.
